I first met Jack back in January this year when I laid on a cupping session at La Marzocco in Leeds featuring talks from World Coffee Research and a cupping of new coffees from producers in Northern Colombia. This coffee was on the table and after taking samples back to roast and cup himself, Jack decided to go for it. I'm really happy he did - it's a great coffee and the grower sold all of their coffee available through Algrano.
I've been to the roastery and to the cafe a few times since, I mean, it's on my doorstep! They are a great bunch of people, the roastery is seperate from the cafe now, although the first roaster they had still sits proudly in the window of the cafe and can be seen roasting now and then. It's well worth a visit and the beach in Crosby is amazing and much quieter than the nearby Formby.
It's a great team, you can read all about them and see them here
La Pradera is a family-owned organic estate farm in Aratoca, Santander. Four generations of the Daza Bautistas have been directly involved in the production, processing and export of exceptional, organic, specialty coffee. In the early 1970’s Mr. Héctor Daza began the transformation of the family farm into a coffee paradise, by planting diverse timber and fruit trees, creating a beautiful shade canopy for the different varieties of coffee he planted. This was the starting point of a lifelong commitment to environmental practices at La Pradera. The 1980’s were a challenging period, with low market prices and adverse climate conditions. I, Oscar Daza, third generation, assumed the leadership of La Pradera, with a vision to produce extraordinary specialty coffees, certified Rainforest Alliance, Birdfriendly and Organic for world markets.
